Between 2015 and 2016 the author spent a year living in a remote village in the French Pyrenees.
“Letters from the Pyrenees” documents this period in a series of open letters, delving into the multifarious aspects of a world that is, in many senses, marginal. They explore the rich wildlife of the area. They look back at its history and at the natural forces that created the flesh and bones of the landscape. Most of all they attempt to understand the rhythms and pressures that provide the mountain communities with their unique character. And, of course, there are also the personal journeys bound up inevitably in the here and now.
